Do you have a Linux Server? Read here!

April 2nd, 2012 by Riley All,

We're starting to wrap up development on the 1.04 patch, and due to that we would like to make a humble request to the community. In the past as some of you may know, NMRiH has been plagued with various issues which are exclusive to Linux servers. Due to a lack of resources (and mostly time) we've been unable to fully test out our Linux server binaries in the past for crash issues. With this in mind, we would like to ask the NMRiH community if they would be willing to temporarily donate a Linux server for us to check if the Linux files for 1.04 are working as intended with no surprise issues.*

If you are an interested Linux server owner, simply post in this topic and a developer will contact you for further details. Alternatively, shoot an email to contact@nmrih.com. You can also contact us in our irc channel; if you do so, don't just leave immediately if no one responds!

*If we don't get a Linux server, don't worry, we can still test out the binaries on our own Linux VM!

eBook - Beta 1.04 Status

March 30th, 2012 by Xendrid Awhile back in August of 2011 we announced a short story contest. Participants would go on to write a short story based in the same universe as our game. In order to let people truly express their writing prowess we capped the words at the standard 7,500 words. We got a lot of entries that reached that cap and they could have kept going too! Some of them were funny, some of them sad, and even some grotesque zombie smut which I won't be getting into. It was a blast to read these stories. We would have had a proper update for this sooner, but it took months to read the entries and get everyone to vote on a winner. By that time we were in a rush to get the mod ready for a public release and the other half of the contest got pushed to the way side. The winner Darrin "Bluehawk" Boland's story will still be designed into an official map. We also planned to have the best entries featured in an eBook. So here it is!

BETA 1.04 Status
We hope you all have been enjoying Survival mode. The team has been hard at work tweaking and bug fixing. The Beta 1.04 update is going through final testing. The game mode mechanics are undergoing a few changes as well as Flooded. Vincent has incorporated traps to aid in your survival and boarded up numerous entrances to change the flow in game play. SotaPoika applied some bug fixes to Chinatown as well. Beta 1.04 will see further optimization and will help improve and balance the Survival mode. Want to help make NMRiH better? • 2 New weapons: Mossberg 500A & Woodman's Hatchet
    • - A traditional civilian & law enforcement shotgun, and a leathal one-handed skull-splitter

    • One-handed Melee: What to do with that free hand?
    • How about holding to a flashlight while you swing that lead pipe around like a madman? That'd be pretty handy, wouldn't it?

NMRiH wins PC Gamer's Mod of the Year award!

February 9th, 2012 by Dman757

PC Gamer has been showing No More Room in Hell a lot of love recently. This past week has been filled with excitement for us. Just in case you don't follow our twitter or facebook page here is a recap of what has gone on this past week!

  • Mod of the Year award announcement

  •
Mod of the Year:
    No More Room in Hell

Derived from the classic, shuffling-zombie template of the George Romero movies, No More Room in Hell feels uniquely more like a horror game than an FPS. Every bullet matters, and you canít hold a flashlight and a weapon at the same time (other than your pistol), so illuminating a zombie with your Maglite while a teammate applies his sledge-hammer is typical of the gameís excruciatingly tense, realistic teamwork.
• Mention on the PC Gamer Podcast (Mention at ~42 minute mark)

  •
A few of the editors at PC Gamer recall their initial experience playing No More Room in Hell. They tell a tale of their adventures and of their choices when confronted with tough decisions. Also they some nice things about the mod and give their first impressions.
• VoD of Editors Playing NMRiH

  •
Fighting for their lives against the seemingly endless hoards of living dead a few brave writers and editors test their luck and leave the confines of their shelter in the attempt at contacting the national guard. All the while streaming a live audience who can only watch in shock and awe.
• Article in PC Gamer Magazine:

  •
Well we didn't want to post the entire article since the magazine hasn't officially been released yet as far as we know. Although in the March issue #224 of PC Gamer we are featured in a full page article on page 86.
Gmod SWEP Pack

January 29th, 2012 by Dman757 A fan recently contacted us about making a SWEP pack for gmod. So we said sure! The pack is still a work in progress but the first version done and playable. You can help us with future releases by reporting all bugs to nomoreroominhelp@gmail.com

Don't think we've forgotten about Update 1.03. We are currently testing our new gamemode to make sure it's the best experience we can offer. We prefer shorter release cycles but there is quite a bit of testing/polishing we want to do before releasing to the public.

SOPA/PIPA

January 18th, 2012 by Maxx I am sure that all of you by now have heard about the proposed laws in the United States, SOPA and PIPA.

We on NMRiH, our team and testers and our entire community, would all be adversely affected by the passage of the bills Stop Online Piracy Act (House Resolution 3261) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (Senate Bill 968). Not only would passage and adoption of either or both of these bills in to law hurt us here working on NMRiH, but they would be absolutely detrimental to the health and well-being of the free, open, and unrestricted internet we all know and enjoy today.

We here on NMRiH fully support the blackouts and protests being conducted by Wikipedia, Reddit, and many other sites.

Even if you are not an American citizen (I fall in to this category myself), we can still take action to demonstrate the general public's widespread opposition to both of these bills.

As project manager for No More Room in Hell, and as your Canadian super-bro, I encourage all of you to let your State Department/Foreign Ministry know that you oppose SOPA/PIPA in the United States, and let your local government representatives know that you oppose any similar bill where you live!

Sign the Avaaz.org petition now to get started on having your voice heard:

MOTY 2011 and Beyond

December 18th, 2011 by Xendrid We're really busy working on the mod, but here is a quick little post before the timer ends for the 2011 MOTY voting. We'd like to let our fans know that the mod isn't going anywhere but forward. As the legacy of the mod shows, there is no stopping it. We thank you for sticking with it and we're going to keep expanding and adding new content. First off, there is an update coming for NMRiH. A new mode, a new map to go with it and a few other technical things.

In version 1.03 of NMRiH, we'll be introducing a new game mode! The mode is wave based much like Killing Floor in which players must fight off wave after wave of enemies. In our game, after a certain wave is completed a supply drop will take place allowing the players to restock on ammunition and other supplies. Vincent's map Flooded will be the premiere map for this game mode. Though it is the only map in this update, we have more in the works for future ones!

The longevity of NMRiH does not depend solely on the developers working on it. The bigger picture is you, the community. You may have noticed a new sub-forum on our official forums called "Official Fan Map Submission". This section will soon be open to community mappers who have created a level for NMRiH and wish to submit it for review. What will it be reviewed for? To become an official map! The team will play the map and decide if it is up to standards with what we are looking for in an official map and if it passes the test it will be included in future versions of the mod. Of course you can always post your mapping endeavors in our general Mapping section. Among other things, content is constantly in the works for the mod whether it be map props or weapons. Here is a shot of the newest melee addition Maxx cooked up:

Expect a trailer for the new mode and the 1.03 update itself very soon! Lastly, we ask for your continued support by putting in your vote for us in the ModDB 2011 Mod of the Year Awards! Also check out Contagion in the IOTY Awards as well! Again we thank you guys for supporting us and the modding community!
