Monthly update - May/April 2010

June 2nd, 2010 by Dman757 Introduction
Would you take a look at this! The month of May has come and past which means it's time to get everyone caught up. You don't want to get left behind because it only ends once, everything else is just progress. I've got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in this update and I'm here help you get informed. So unprompted pop-culture references aside lets get to it!

General News
School is out for most of us which means more productivity for the time being. Maxx underwent surgery this morning and will be out of commission for several weeks while he recovers so send him your best. *Update* I just got word that everything went smoothly. Be sure to check out the front page media section as I have begun updating it with all our latest model renders. If you are wondering where our audio update is this month and last a small hiccup caused last months edited version to be erased but I still have the raw recording so I will release it when we record this months audio. Next week I will be begin sorting through the beta tester applications looking for our first testing group so stay tuned!

  • Audio
  • Cleric and Munky have practicing their vocal talents recording voices for the national guard, radios, helicopter pilots and more. Kmoon and DaveOfDefeat have been working on soundscapes and various weapon sounds.

  • Animation
  • Sn1pe and Blindside have created some amazing animations since they joined the team. For next months update we will have some animation demos to show some of their work.

Art Department
First up is the art department. Sickjoe back in action drawing some new concept art. Sickjoe is already underway with the national guard art and has recently finished a "Goth" zombie which you can see below. Bucky continues to create some excellent textures from trash to xrays and aluminum siding he does it all. You can see a small sample of his work on our HUD art below. Maxx cooked up a new infection overlay in conjunction with ssba's infection system, we have images below but they don't do it justice so to we hope to have a video soon.

Mapping
Now on to the wonderful world of our Mapping department. Nay0r has started converting his map nmrih_broadway to an objective map thus changing the prefix to nmo_broadway. He also provided some screenshots of the latest version of his map which you can check out below. Vincent074 completed the layout for his map nmo_industry, no screen shots yet as its still a work in progress. Sotapoika has plans to start a new map or to be specific remake an old map from NMRiH's past. You will just have to wait and see what map it is. Rc_ is currently making a map titled nmrih_hospital which as the title suggests is a map inside a hospital.

Modeling
Maxx has been hard at work cranking out weapons faster than we can get them in game. In the past months he has created a total of five weapons. Which include the following: M16A4(assault rifle), Sako 85(bolt action sniper rifle) As well as remade models of the Remington 870(Shotgun), Hammer and Lead Pipe. Images of all these can be caught below as well links to the original three remade models. Rc_ has made many hospital themed props from gurneys to body bags for his map nmrih_hospital. Vincent074 put together a fancy helicopter to rescue those luck few survivors who might be left behind. Images to come next month when the textures are completed, as well a few other props he has created.

Monthly Update - March 24h 2010

March 25th, 2010 by Dman757 Introduction
Oh boy it feels good to be back and writing an update again! Quite a bit has happened since our last update, some good and some bad. Rest assured the good definitely outweighs the bad. We also have an audio update as well as the CCCP winners.

THE GOOD
Good news is always best right? So to start things off let me introduce our new additions to the team. First off is a level designer by the name of _RC he has already begun working on his map titled nmrih_hospital. Next up is an Animator named Blindside who has joined up to help us get rid of those boring and bland HL:2 animations. Give both of our new team members a warm welcome! Now onto news about our current team members. SSBA has implemented a few features as well as fixing up some bugs. Here are some of the more noteworthy features: Bash damage(only on pistols at the moment), Being able to pick up physics objects with the +USE key, weapon damage and functionality work has been revamped. (still pending testing) Maxx has begun working on a bolt action rifle with a long range scope attachment as well as finishing up a in game model for the walkietalkie. (sorry no image at the moment) DaveOfDefeat has been working various event sounds for picking up/droping various objects be it guns, ammo, objective items, etc. Nay0r has been polishing up his map. (new images below)

THE BAD
Crazymatt has had to go on an indefinite hiatus due to monetary troubles. He is currently looking for a job and a home we wish you the best of luck dude we are rooting for you! Cleric, while playing ultimate frisbee was hit in the face by a rogue frisbee that shattered his tooth, causing a temporary speech impediment. Thus his vocal talents are on hold at the moment.

An Update - February 25th 2010

February 25th, 2010 by Dman757 Well hello there NMRIH fans, I heard you guys like updates. Well this is more of an announcement than an update though it could go both ways. (insert sexual innuendo)

News
Not much to report other than the weekly update schedule will be changing. We will now be doing monthly updates instead of weekly. There are a few reasons for this yet I will not list them here although I may post in my dev log. For those of you wondering about our "Community Creativity Contest & Prizes" winners will be announced when our audio update is released. (March 1st or 3rd) Now we have been doing a bit of in game testeting recently and if you listened to our audio update I said we would have a video out soon. So here it is our second video shot during some of our play tests:

Whats going on I don't even

February 11th, 2010 by Dman757 As you can see we have upgraded our forum. (to combat spammers) The old layout wasn't compatible with the new version so we will be in the process of remodeling the next few days. (weeks?)
"[Maxx] was super high when he made the temp logo."
This is just a temporary thread in place for the weekly "unscheduled" update which should be out tomorrow. (if the audio update does not get corrupted again)

There are a number of new features this upgrade has brought with it so feel free to experiment in this thread. Some of the old code structures may be broken so. (This thread will be deleted once the weekly update is out.)

Weekly Update - February 2nd, 2010

February 2nd, 2010 by Dman757 Hello boys and girls, friends and family! First off we here at No More Room in Hell would like to give a big thanks to all of you that voted for us in Moddb's mod of the year awards!

News
Now if I haven't lost you to the shinny pictures below there are a few things that may be of interest to report. First off I have added the Alpha video to YouTube if anyone cares to check that out link here. We are also on the look out for a character animator to join the team. So if you happen to know anyone who may be interested or are interested your self you can check out the requirements below. The Community Creativity Contest and Prizes has ended as of the first of February. We will be announcing winners later this month so stay tuned. We had a new programmer join the team in the past few days so give a warm welcome to HeavyHelmet!

Bus
We here at No More Room in Hell like public transit. Albeit public transit may not be the best form of transportation during a zombie apocalypse, it's hard to erase the past. Like an answering machine to a drunk, some things are just bad ideas from the start. Need to get up town but don't have a drivers license? You won't regret waking up and taking this wonderful bus created by Maxx.

Bench & Subway
Standing can be tiresome after a long night, so while you wait for the bus you can sit and contemplate what you are going to say when you see them tomorrow on this fabulous bench made by Meotwister!

If you like more symbolic forms of transportation you can take the the subway and descend underground to sit in a metal coffin which may be better than showing your face again. Also created by Meotwister.

Lamborghini
Though when you grow older and you're having your midlife crisis you can just laugh at those smucks riding their stuffy boring modes of transportation in this Lamborghini made by Vincent. No need to worry about relationship issues when you got this booty machine!

New Map Beginning
This is Vincent's work-in-progress map. It is currently not much more than a "grey box", a rough layout with no details. As you can see it is already shaping up to be quite grand and very atmospheric!

    Weekly Update - January 9th, 2010

    January 9th, 2010 by Dman757 Introduction
Greetings NMRiH fans it feels like its been a whole year since I did an update last. Bad puns aside its time for me to pull my weight and do the weekly update! We have a new weapon model by Maxx and a prop model by Surfa to show this week. Quite a bit of news if you didn't notice the wall of text below, as well as a community contest so check all of that out below! Moddb voting has started and thanks to your support we are in the running for best upcoming Half-Life 2 mod of the year so please continue your support!

Some team news for the week:
We recently acquired another texture artist this past week, some of you forum regulars may know him. Nonetheless give a big old welcome to Bucky! He applied back in September then took some time to work on his artwork and well here he is new and improved. Maxx has been slacking off again, finally going back to work at Rockstar. He also finished making a Winchester Super X3 Flanigun model but whatever, you know what they say once a slacker always a slacker. CrazyMatt had been working on getting an awesome system for dynamic cloth movement on characters clothing as well as free moving ragdoll guts for the zombies. Ssba has been hard at work completely rewriting the zombie spawning code. After a few developer tests we decided to revamp our spawning system to make it more organic and effective. The new system is a large improvement on our old system even though it still needs more testing to fully gauge its effectiveness. While ssba was at it he also implemented punching and head movements to character actions to give a more realistic feeling of weight and movement. Surfa has created a great looking billboard in which we are having a contest for content to fill it up. (see below for a link with details)

    Shotgun
Winchester Super X3 Flanigun model by Maxx.

"Community Creativity Contest and Prizes" for Posters & Billboards!
As mentioned earlier we are having a contest for fake advertisements/movie posters and or posters to fill up the game with. Check this thread for information, the grandprize winner get a corpse model designed after themselves and a free $10 game on steam. So be sure to check out he rules and specifications!
