Map Specific enemies would give abit more variety to maps. These zombies would all effect gameplay "Slightly" and would have uniuqe models. some basic examples I could think of:

Water Logged zombie: Yes, just like a very similar sounding suggestion, water logged zombies would be bloated zombies that are all swollen up and soaked from being in water too long. They'd float on water when they fall, and they are signifigantly weaker than regular zombies. They will be more likley to infect a surviovor when hitting them, but they would be less likley when grappling them. Prevalent on nms_flooded, but can rarely be found outside on nmo_cabin.

Military/SWAT zombies: An armored zombie, usually near group-specfic equipment. They take less body damage, and have a smaller headshot hitbox (Thier helmets). Very rare, since military members would usually be torn to shreds, and there are few SWAT members around. They have a chance of dropping ammo and very rarely a pistol. Can be found in military variation on nmo_chinatown and nmo_broadway (Streets/hidey holes) and SWAT variations can be found on nms_flooded very rarely.

*Infected survivor/gunshop owner: Really two different zombies, but will work exactly the same. These guys will fight to the death for what's thiers, and will usually sucumb to the infection relativley quickly. They can be seen as a "Boss" of sorts, will spawn in an area with more weapons and a bottle of pills; aswell as few zombies, and will be fought in two "stages". First stage will be the enemy questioning, and then firing/hitting you. Upon firing/hitting (depending on which they did) they will then attempt to flee. When they flee sucessfully, they will then turn and alert most nearby zombies to your presence (basically speed them up a little), but htis can be avoided if you kill them first. Either way, they turn into carboon copies of the current fallen survivors. Their gunshots do little damage, but will knock you down for a second. Survivor very rarely spawns on nmo_cabin's bar with a melee, or nmo_broadway's bathroom with 50/50 weapons. Gunshop owner will spawn rarely on nmo_chinatown's gunshop.

*Police officers: Simple police officers found admist the chaos, they will attempt to "control" your fellow survivors. They will threaten to shoot, but rarely will, and die in one headshot. They can be "coerced" to join you, rarely, and will help you until you die. But this is a very rare feat, and usually will shoot you for one reason or another. They are rarely infected, but will rarely drop a police baton, ammo, and/or a handgun. VERY rarely spawns on nmo_broadway.

*Trucker zombie: An infected truck driver who succumb to the infect while still strapped in. Can, occasionally, cause a truck to go into motion and plow through zombies or even survivors. This zombie will rarely spawn on nmo_chinatown, and will usually struggle when asurvivor is near. Not sure if this should plow down the generator gate or not.

Hazmat zombie: A person who went into a hazmat suit and zombified. Will work the same as a regular zombie, except it will only grapple. Cannot hurt or infect people. Not sure what map this zombie could goon, but the idea crossed my mind. Probably very rare.

Flaming zombie: A zombie who ended up on fire, this zombie will spawn on fire and walk to the survivors. Will take less headshot damage, and set survivors on fire. Takes no damage from fire-based weapons and enviormental effects, but contacting water will kill him. Found on nmo_broadway and nms_flooded. Rare.


Obviously, these are all ideas, and can be changed anyway the devs please. Please, if you liek this or hate it, leave some way to improve it, or atleast SOME REASON you like/dislike it.


Note: Zombies marked with a * will never spawn with other zombies marked with a *. All enemies are EXTREMLY RARE. I mean, really ffreaking rare. Would only need a single model (Mabye 2 for the police and flaming) and will NEVER spawn at the same time as other zombies. Water logged zombies would be the exception to this.

could work easily as a model, I don't see why not.

These are already planned, zombified policemen/SWAT/National guard will have some sort of armor/protection that lessens damage to an extent, this, as well as living NPC National Guards and SWAT who run around, defend locations and warn you to stay away, from what I remember, National Guard warn you beforehand then you if you get too close they shoot, while the SWAT shoot you on sight with no warning. these will be implemented in a future version of the game. Now about the zombified versions of these guys: I always thought of "armored" zombies as a great suggestion, some extra ones that I thought of a long time ago would be:
-Construction Zombie
has a hard hat which reduces blunt melee head damage, more visible with reflective vest.
-Cyclist zombie
has a Bicycle helmet which reduces blunt melee head damage.
-Motorcyclist Zombie
has a Motorcycle helmet which reduces most melee head damage, protective clothing reduces melee damage, can not bite by consequence.
-Firefighter Zombie
Has a helmet which reduces blunt melee head damage, protective clothing reduces melee damage, completely fireproof.
-Bombsuit Zombie
has a Bombsuit helmet which reduces most melee head damage, protective clothing reduces almost all melee damage, Fireproof, can not bite by consequence. (LOL OP!)


*Infected survivor/gunshop owner:
A little overcomplicated as a suggestion, if something similar where added to the mod, they should have very similar AI as the National guard and SWAT guys, albeit the two main differences would be that their aggressiveness would be randomized, sometimes they would shoot you on sight (like the SWAT guys), sometimes they would give you a warning not to come close or they will become hostile (like the National Guard), the second difference would be that they would be randomly spawned, which means they could be in a main route which you need to cross, or close to an objective or even in an extra optional area.

*Police officers: Similar to what I had to say about National Guard, except this mod won't ever feature NPC's that follow you and help, atleast to my knowledge, your teammates should always be fellow players, which is funner anyways, police officers could be a model variant with the same AI as the SWAT or National Guard or even the Survivor NPC mentioned above.

*Trucker zombie:
Kind of ridiculous, as you could just have a truck plow through things if set up correctly in the map itself, it shouldn't have to be an NPC on its own.

Hazmat zombie:
could work easily as a model, I don't see why not.

zombie coated in a glossy substance, explodes when fired upon, short lived but can be extremely dangerous, impossible to tell apart from Flammable Zombie.

Amazing suggestions, but where did you get that information on the future ai? I want to look at it, see what else I can expect. Oh, and my idea with the police officers would be they're "mostly" friendly, but will be hostile to a survivor who attacks them. I probably should just make them passive instead of following you around. Not sure about the explosive zombie either, for that matter. the way to tell them apart from regular zombies would be their glossiness, the developers could just add a glossy discoloration effect to them via skin masks or something,

similar to what this guy did Here

as for you saying them being too dangerous; you need to remember that their glossiness would make them rather visible and stand out, plus meleeing them to death would be completely safe, as an axe to the face would not combust them etc.

the reason why they explode or light on fire is because they are coated in a flammable or explosive liquid, both do actually explode, but one just bursts into flames, creating a weaker explosion, but also an additional lingering threat: the zombie that's on fire.

whilst the other has a larger more powerful instantaneous explosion, can cause the death of survivors instantaneously, but also makes the zombie expire of course.

I don't see how you could think of these as too extreme or overpowered, since the glossy zombies (I'll nickname them that) can easily be dispatched from afar with a gun, they die almost instantly with the explosive effect, and can be used in advantage by the survivors, dispatching an entire horde they might end amidst. plus, if you see one; pull out your melee, they dont explode by melee hits and ain't tougher then a regular zombie...

unless you get a glossy motorcycle zombie, or a glossy Firefighter zombie.

then you are fucked,

one takes little melee damage while the other wouldn't expire from being on fire!

We plan on having:

Shamblers - Your traditional Romero zombie. Harmless alone, lethal in hordes.

Armored - Soldiers and Special Response units who have been felled by the undead, no trudging along slowly in their head-to-toe body armor.

Runners - the fresh infected, before muscles give out and tendons go rigid, players killed by infection will arise as runners (AI controlled) and about 1 out of every 20 zombies will be a runner.

Children - young children moving in packs like wolves. I hate children.

Torsos - slowly pulling themselves along the floor, looking up at unsuspecting survivors and latching on to their ankles!

Currently the only ones in the build are the shamblers. We hope to get either the runners or the armored ones in next. Not all zombie types will be ready for our first release.

My complaint on the explosive zombies is that you could shoot them at close range and you'd die. DIEING from shooting zombies doesn't exactly make sense, but it could just be a yellow liquid instead of a white liquid for explosive zombs. Oh, and I thought (as in was praying that) only common zombs could do that. I knew about the masks too, I've seen some things done with the spitter, and the uber in tf2 "SORT OF" works ike a mask/texture combo. Oh, and I've read your signature before, Maxx's canadian wisdom is engraved into my subconsious.

Sometimes I do think that you forgot what a Zombie Apocalypse is!
Why the Hell someone would use a bomb-squad protection in a zombie apocalypse? It's a zombie apocalypse and not a terrorist attack!
Zombie firefighter shouldn't be complete fireproof! He should burn slightly.
And please, Explosive Zombies? HELL no! you're just imitating another game.
Make your own zombies. even if they're specials.

What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one...

whoa whoa whoa...before hl2 was even out (and flash forward to present day) i've made concepts for this mod of a fat zombie in an electric wheelchair, swat zombies, fire zombies, zombies covered in sharp shards of glass from busting through windows, crawlers, kids, firemen, water logged zombies, bloated zombies whose veins are protruded from excessive internal pressure (including bulging eye balls for effect), zombies in burkas, butcher zombies, old zombies with handsome mustaches, zombies that arose mid fucking autopsy, jawless zombies, zombies with an eyeball hanging from it's socket that sways back and forth as it shambles along, a zombie who was recently in the hospital with a cast on his arm (which would not feel good to be pummeled with), dreadlock zombies, hobo zombies, a father protecting his child and is slowly succumbing to infection, zombies with skeletal hands for poking you in an aggravating fashion, a zombie with a smashed face, a zombie missing an arm, so on and so forth.

now for extra points and a smelly hug...out of all of the above work i've done, guess how many of dem zombies be in da game?
