I don't know about anyone one else but I have a small hobby of making gifs out of boredom. Thought I would share since I usually just throw them up in my sig for month then never look at them again.

I have this as my desktop background now. Unfortunately, I found out that Windows 7 doesn't support animated gifs anymore.
Bummer, would have looked all the more awesome on my two monitors. Static is going to have to be awesome enough, I guess.

Well the original idea was to have text scroll across the bottom like "A curfew has been enacted for all residential areas between the hours of 10 PM - 7 AM" The only issue I ran into when attempting to optimize was making the framerate decent and making the text readable when I scaled it down for in-game.

Ok so I started writing something but realized it's a lot more to explain the entire process than I thought. The simple explanation is you have frames (set of individual images) and in VTFEdit you import them all at once (Click the first and Shift+Click the last) Make sure you have animated texture selected as the type and your pretty much done. The frame rate or frames/second that the frames will loop is set in the vmt. I'll make a more depth tutorial in the future. I'll probably post it on the devblog/moddb.


Here is a simple tutorial I think I used when I first started out: http://www.moddb.com...nimated-texture I think it uses some lame third party program to rip images from a gif meh... I don't really like everything it does but I guess it is a start.

The focus was to create a short loop for rain. It's nothing special and really the only animation work that went into it was 4 frames(repeated) for the rain. Background image is something I took on my shitty phone camera. The rain didn't come out the way I want it exactly but for first try I think it is decent.

Thats what Dreamscene is for. Plays gif's and even video files in full animation as a desktop background. However, if you have a crappy computer, it will lag.
